On Thursday 30th of March, ISA Netherlands Section kicked off the college tour that it organized this year. During the course of the college tour several theme evenings will be organized at various educational institutions in The Netherlands. With the college 
tour ISA Netherlands Section aims to connect students and companies with each other. The first theme evening was hosted by Actemium Veghel Edulab for the members of ISA Netherlands Section and other interested professionals. The participants were welcomed in the Edulab, with sandwiches and soup, offered by the host for the evening, and sponsor of ISA Netherlands Section, Actemium. This way, everyone could enjoy a satisfied start of the theme evening.
After a short welcoming introduction by Marcel Jutte, President of ISA Netherlands Section, secretary Ronald Kouwenhoven gave an overview of the agenda and introduced the speakers of the evening. There were speakers on three topics: functional safety, cyber security and alarm management.
Functional safety
Actemium’s Johan van Lent gave a presentation about functional safety and the ISA-84. He talked about how people should deal with this standard and accompanying legislation in the process automation world.
The ISA-84 standard “Functional Safety” (by now better known as the IEC 61511) has been around for almost 20 years. During this time, the standard evolved with the market changes, as current systems are more integrated for increased and improved data exchange. Functional safety encompasses the detection of a potentially dangerous condition, which results in bringing the process into a safe state in a timely fashion.
Cybersecurity
Michael Theuerzeit, on behalf of Hudson Cybertec, sponsor of ISA Netherlands Section, addressed the audience with a presentation about dealing with vulnerabilities within IACS (Industrial Automation & Control 
Systems) environments. He discussed the differences between IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology), including the reasons why vulnerability analysis within the OT/IACS domain requires a different approach.
After elaborating on the significance of the three pillars of cyber security, being people, organization and technique, a solution was given through embracing a cyber security standard, addressing the specific requirements for IACS environments, the IEC 62443 standard. He pointed out that managing vulnerabilities correctly, helps improving the cyber security level of an organization.
In the conclusion, the audience received several handles on how to start with cyber security. With the three pillars of cyber security in mind, examples were given, helping the participants with insight in a starting point for cyber security.
Alarm management
Ruud Timmermans and Pieter Dekker of Euro Tank Terminal (ETT) gave a joint presentation about alarm management. They gave an extensive look on how ETT used the ISA-18.2 standard to successfully reduce the number of alarms at the terminal in a significant way.
The co-hosted presentation further addressed topics like: what actually is an alarm, what are the properties of an alarm and how do employees on-site have to deal with the various alarms, based on their respective roles and responsibilities.
Edulab
At the end of the theme evening, guests got a guided tour around Actemium’s Edulab, after which they discussed the successful evening while enjoying a drink. The Edulab offers students the possibility to do projects with real industrial installations. Students work on several projects with a large degree of freedom, applying tomorrows techniques today. Continuation of college tour
Throughout 2017 the ISA Netherlands Section college tour will visit several other educational institutions. Theme evenings will be organized at The Hague University, the Avans University of Applied Sciences and the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.

Kick-off college tour van ISA Nederland een groot succes
Op donderdag 30 maart jl. organiseerde ISA Nederland de kick-off van de college tour die dit jaar wordt gehouden. Gedurende de college tour worden een aantal thema-avonden georganiseerd op diverse onderwijsinstellingen in Nederland. Met de college tour beoogt ISA Nederland om studenten en bedrijfsleven met elkaar in contact te brengen. De eerste thema-avond werd gehost door het Actemium Veghel Edulab en was bedoeld voor de leden van ISA Nederland en andere geïnteresseerden. De aanwezigen werden vooraf ontvangen in het Edulab, waar men zich tegoed kon doen aan soep en broodjes, aangeboden door de gastheer van de avond en sponsor van ISA Nederland, Actemium. Op deze manier kon iedereen met een volle maag beginnen aan de thema-avond.
Na een korte inleiding van Marcel Jutte, bestuursvoorzitter van ISA Nederland, waarin hij de aanwezigen welkom heette, gaf Ronald Kouwenhoven als secretaris van ISA Nederland een overzicht van de agenda en leidde hij de diverse sprekers van de avond in. Er waren sprekers voor een drietal onderwerpen, te weten functional safety, cybersecurity en alarm management.
Functional safety
Namens Actemium gaf Johan van Lent een presentatie over functional safety en de ISA-84. Hij ging daarbij in op hoe men in de procesautomatisering dient om te gaan met deze standaard en de daaraan geldende regelgeving.
De ISA-84 standaard “Functional Safety” (inmiddels beter bekend als IEC 61511) bestaat alweer bijna 20 jaar. Gedurende deze periode is de standaard mee geëvolueerd met de veranderingen in de markt. Zo zijn huidige systemen meer geïntegreerd voor een toegenomen en betere data-uitwisseling. Functional safety omvat de detectie van een potentieel gevaarlijke toestand, hetgeen resulteert in het tijdig in een veilige toestand brengen van het proces.
Cybersecurity
Michael Theuerzeit gaf namens Hudson Cybertec, sponsor van ISA Nederland, een verhandeling over het omgaan met kwetsbaarheden binnen IACS (Industrial Automation & Control Systems) omgevingen. Daarbij werd ingegaan op de grote verschillen die bestaan tussen de IT (Information Technology) en de OT (Operational Technology), alsook redenen waarom kwetsbaarheden analyse binnen OT/IACS een ander aanpak vereist.
Na in te gaan op het belang van de drie pijlers van cybersecurity, te weten mens, organisatie en techniek, werd een oplossing aan de hand gedaan middels de omarming van een op de IACS-omgeving geënte cybersecuritystandaard, de IEC 62443. Hierbij werd aangegeven dat het op juiste wijze managen van kwetsbaarheden helpt bij het verbeteren van het cybersecurityniveau.
Ter afsluiting kregen de toehoorders nog een aantal handvatten aangereikt om te beginnen met cybersecurity. Vanuit de drie pijlers voor cybersecurity werd een aantal voorbeelden gegeven waarmee de aanwezigen inzicht kregen in een startpunt voor cybersecurity.
Alarm management
Ruud Timmermans en Pieter Dekker van Euro Tank Terminal (ETT) gaven een gezamenlijke presentatie over alarm management. Ze gaven een uitgebreide kijk in de keuken over de manier waarop ETT de ISA-18.2 standaard gebruikt heeft om het aantal alarmen op de terminal op zeer significante wijze te reduceren.
Daarnaast gingen beiden in de geslaagde co-presentatie in op zaken als: wat is nu eigenlijk een alarm, wat zijn de eigenschappen van een alarm en hoe moeten medewerkers op de site, vanuit hun verschillende rollen en verantwoordelijkheden, omgaan met de diverse alarmen.
Edulab
Na afloop van de thema-avond werden de gasten rondgeleid door het Edulab van Actemium om daarna met elkaar onder het genot van een drankje na te praten over de avond. Het Edulab biedt studenten de kans om projecten te doen met echte industriële installaties. Studenten werken hier in grote mate van vrijheid aan diverse projecten waarbij ze de techniek van morgen, vandaag al toepassen. Vervolg collegetour
Gedurende 2017 zal de college tour van ISA Nederland een aantal andere onderwijsinstellingen aandoen. Zo worden in het kader van de college tour thema-avonden georganiseerd bij onder andere de Haagse Hogeschool, de Avans Hogeschool en Hogeschool Utrecht.

Er blijken regelmatig misverstanden en onduidelijkheden te zijn over de organisatie van ISA en de geldstromen (lees: lidmaatschap, sponsoring, training) binnen de organisatie.
Met deze toelichting wil ISA Netherlands Section meer duidelijkheid verschaffen over de verschillen tussen de ISA Netherlands Section en ISA Europe (a.k.a. ISA European Office).
